Besides restaurants, the Food and Environmental Hygiene Department licenses food factories, fresh provision shops, bakeries, siu mei and lo mei shops, frozen confection and milk factories, cold stores and factory canteens. This page lists all 16,463 such licences on FEHD’s daily list — 11,523 of them food factories: search by shop sign, address or licence number, or browse by district.

How to check a food licence

  1. Search FEHD’s list of licensed food premises by shop sign or address, and compare the licence number and address. FEHD says customers can verify through its list whether a food supplier is issued with a food business licence.
  2. FEHD updates its list daily and this site copies it weekly, so FEHD’s list is the authority.

Licensed food premises (other than restaurants) by district

An entry belongs to the district its address is in: the point FEHD’s geotagged copy of the list gives for it (matched by licence number), inside the Home Affairs Department’s district boundary; an entry without a usable point is placed by the district FEHD’s list gives (it splits Yau Tsim Mong into Yau Tsim and Mong Kok, one district here), and failing that from its address. Each district page lists every entry there, 250 to a page.

What each licence covers

In the words of FEHD’s Guide on Types of Licences Required, a licence is needed for a food business which involves:

  • Food Factory Licence: the preparation of food for sale for human consumption off the premises — the common trades include operating a take-away food shop or providing catering service, roasting meat or poultry, and making noodles

  • Fresh Provision Shop Licence: the sale of fresh, chilled or frozen beef, mutton, pork, reptiles (including live reptiles), fish (including live fish) or poultry (including live poultry)

  • Bakery Licence: the baking of bread and other bakery products for sale

  • Siu Mei and Lo Mei Shop Licence: the sale by retail of siu mei or lo mei, supplied by licensed food factories or other lawful sources

  • Frozen Confection Factory Licence: the manufacture of any frozen confection, including soft ice cream made from a pre-prepared mixture in a dispensing machine for direct retail
