The question that matters when you drive an EV is not whether there is a charger nearby, but what kind. Hong Kong has 988 public charging sites; the tables below count the chargers by speed and by district, so you can see how rare a fast charger actually is before you set off.

How many EV chargers are there, and how many are quick?

Medium chargers make up the overwhelming majority; quick chargers are far fewer, and the fastest sit at only a few dozen sites. “There is a charger nearby” and “there is a fast charger nearby” are very different statements in Hong Kong:

Which speed do you need?

  • Fast: the quickest top-up, but at only a few dozen sites — worth confirming before you set off.
  • Quick: a meaningful time saving, common in malls and government car parks.
  • Medium: the most numerous, and fine while you shop, eat or watch a film.

What the data does and does not cover

Locations, charger counts and speeds come from the Environmental Protection Department’s open data, which aggregates government car parks, malls, estates and operators such as CLP, HK Electric and EV-Charge. It records where chargers are and how many — not whether one is free right now.

How many public EV chargers are there in Hong Kong?
EPD open data lists 988 public charging sites holding more than ten thousand chargers, most of them medium speed. The table above gives the exact split between quick, medium and fast, refreshed weekly.
Where are the fast chargers?
Fast chargers are the rarest of the three types, at only a few dozen sites across Hong Kong. Switch on the charger layer and use the fast-charger filter to see just those; each card lists how many quick and medium chargers that site holds.
Where are the free EV charging stations in HK?
Some governmental parking buildings and utilities still offer free charging or subsidized rates. Detailed cards display exact fees and parking tariffs where available.
