Every figure is computed from the official open data this site syncs weekly, not typed in by hand.
MTR Fares: Adult, Student, Child and Elderly
MTR fares depend on the stations you travel between, and paying with an Octopus card is usually cheaper than a single ticket. Student Octopus, children aged 3 to 11, passengers 65 and over, and eligible persons with disabilities each have concession fares:

2,436 of the 9,216 station pairs cost a passenger aged 65 or over exactly $2 — the “$2 Scheme” flat rate, which since 3 April 2026 applies up to a $10 adult fare (20% of the adult fare above that).

Ferries are among the cheapest ways to travel in Hong Kong — the Star Ferry from Tsim Sha Tsui to Central or Wan Chai costs only a few dollars, and outlying island routes remain modest for the distance.
The $2 Concession Scheme
Since 3 April 2026 the Government Public Transport Fare Concession Scheme (the “$2 Scheme”) is “$2 flat rate or 80% off”: JoyYou Card holders aged 60 and over and eligible persons with disabilities still pay $2 when the adult fare is $10 or less, and 20% of the adult fare (rounded to the nearest 10 cents) when it is more. It covers the MTR, franchised buses, green minibuses and ferries. The table above shows how many MTR station pairs still cost $2.
